INU GB CENTER
The program, developed by Incheon National University to suit the educational environment of Korea, utilizes the seminar class model of St. John's College(SJC) in the United States, known for its intensive reading and discussion of Western classics.
The program involves reading selected books or parts of the Great Books across various disciplines and conducting comprehensive discussion classes based on collaborative, in-depth conversations. This aims to cultivate students' literacy, problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, questioning skills, democratic communication skills that listen to and empathize with others' perspectives and values.
Seminar differs from everyday conversations, Q&A, or debates. There is no fixed agenda or clear conclusion to be reached. Seminar is the exploration of new thoughts beyond existing frameworks through thoughtful intellectual dialogue where all participants have equal rights to speak, ask questions, and learn from each other. Participants take joint responsibility for listening to others' opinions and developing the conversation.
Through the GB seminar, participants reflect on their perspectives and values, sharing their thoughts with each other and gaining a broader and deeper understanding of the intricate relationships between themselves, others, and society.
